Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: The Man With A Plumbline
Call To Worship
Leader: God presides in the heavenly council. He declares: "You must stop judging unjustly; you must no longer be partial to the wicked!"
People: He declares: "You must defend the rights of the poor and the orphans; be fair to the needy and the helpless."
All: Come, O God, and rule the world; all the nations are yours.
Collect
O Lord, our God, we pray that you will give us the mind of Christ so that when we see those whom society overlooks we will stop to help and not pass by. Keep us ever mindful of the homeless and the poor, and let your grace shine through us as we seek to lift them from despair. Through our deeds of mercy may they feel the love of Christ who came that all may have life and have it abundantly. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we know that when you test our lives with your plumbline, it is easy to see that they are out of line with the example you have given us in Jesus Christ. Forgive us, we pray, and by the power of your Spirit enable us to rebuild in keeping with your law of love and concern. We know that unless this is done, our lives will crumble and fall. We pray in Jesus'Êname. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Stir our hearts this day, O Lord, that we might be willing to follow your will without counting the cost, and without putting our own self-interest first. Bless these gifts and this congregation as we seek to carry your message of love and judgment wherever you would have us go. Amen.

O God, you have saved us from the power of darkness and made us a part of the kingdom of Jesus Christ. We come to worship and praise you for your love for us. Prayer Of Confession
Lord, it is not easy for us to be patient, and when it comes to enduring trials and tribulation with patience, we often find it next to impossible. Offertory Prayer
Gracious God, through your Son, Jesus Christ, you have given us hope. We would share this hope with those who still live in darkness and despair without hope, and so we present these tithes and offerings that you may bless their use in carrying this message of faith to those who have never heard. Amen.

Come, let us give thanks that God is full of compassion. Let us praise the Lord who has taught us to love one another. Let us open our hearts that we may learn what it really means to love our neighbor.
Come, let us worship the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our strength, and with all our mind.
Collect
Lord God of compassion, we praise you for all the times you have helped us in our times of trouble. We give you thanks for the life and teachings of your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us in this time of worship clearly to understand what it means to minister to our neighbor, and give us the determination and the will to pay the cost in time, effort, inconvenience, and money to show your love through us to those in need. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Merciful God, how many times we have found excuses to pass by those in need when we could have helped. Open our eyes that we may truly see the poverty, the hunger, the loneliness all around us; and motivate us to minister where we can as if we were doing it unto you. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
We bring these gifts to you, O Lord, because we know there are needs we cannot meet alone. Working through your Church, may they bring deeds and words that will comfort the afflicted and bring healing to those who suffer. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
