Lectionary Worship Aids
Cycle C, Series IV
First Lesson: Amos 8:1-12
Theme: God's judgment comes
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us enter the house of the Lord with gladness and praise!
People: For the Lord our God is just and righteous and will not be deceived.
Leader: Let all who would tempt the Lord hear that God's justice is swift.
People: None shall stand against the Lord, from the greatest to the least.
Leader: Yet God has been merciful, and we have received in Christ God's grace.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most righteous and just God, You call us daily to know Your will so that we may avoid Your judgment. Lord, give us the ears to hear and the wisdom to follow Your Word. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have taken Your mercy and grace for granted, as if Your judgment could never come. We have even allowed ourselves to doubt that You would ever call us to account for our lives and decisions. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to draw ever closer to being the loving people You created us to be so the world might know that Your Gospel is true. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Thou Fount Of Every Blessing"
"Make Me A Captive, Lord"
"O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee"

Second Lesson: Colossians 1:15-28
Theme: Reconciled in Christ
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all the world hear our praise and thanksgiving for God's mercy!
People: For only in Christ are we redeemed and do we know God's salvation.
Leader: In the cross and the resurrection we are reconciled with the Lord.
People: Our Lord died for our sins so that we might have eternal life and joy.
Leader: Let our hearts give praise to God for mercy and grace beyond our sin.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most loving and merciful God, in Your infinite wisdom You sent Christ to be our Savior even before we understood how deeply we were stained with sin. We praise You, O Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we try to earn our salvation with works or the gifts of our labors, and we fail to accept Your mercy and grace. We have allowed ourselves to think that if we work harder or keep the law more closely somehow we will actually deserve Your love. We often seem unable to grasp that You love us because You are love itself. Forgive us, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Standing On The Promises"
"Grace Greater Than Our Sin"
"Have Thine Own Way, Lord"

Gospel: Luke 10:38-42
Theme: Perfection or grace?
Call To Worship
Leader: We come together to worship, laying aside the burdens of this world.
People: And we set aside the pressures of daily life so that we may worship God.
Leader: We let go of our personal goals to be perfect and accept God's love.
People: We give up all that we are so that we might truly know life in Christ.
Leader: Let us celebrate and give praise for the true life God has given us.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most wonderful and loving God, through the life of Christ we have come to see we are Yours through mercy and grace and not through our personal perfection. Help us to share Your Gospel, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so many times we have sought to earn Your acceptance and failed to accept Your grace and mercy. We have tried to do all the "right" things, and failed to love and care for each other or even ourselves. Forgive us, Lord, and give us the courage and the strength to accept Your unmerited love and grace and to share them with others. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Love, Mercy, And Grace"
"Amazing Grace"
"God Of Grace And God Of Glory"
