Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Words Of Assurance
Trust in the Lord, and do good, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Amen.
Pastoral Prayer
Let us be still! Let us be receptive and open! Let us be eager and believing! Let us be humble! Let us be ready for God to do a miracle in our lives! Let us pray:
We are grateful, Lord, for this house of worship. We enjoy its comfort, we enjoy its music, but most of all we enjoy the opportunity of meeting with you, our God, with our brothers and sisters in the faith, and with those who have come to share the warmth of this hour.
As we come before you to confess our wrongdoings, we know that we have no excuse or defense. You have given us light on the way, but we have often closed our eyes. You have offered us help, but we have often preferred to take care of things by ourselves. You have given us warnings by your Word and life's happenstances, but we have continued in our accustomed ways. You have given us standards to follow, but we have preferred the easier standards of our society. Pardon us, Lord God, not only for our shortcomings, but also for our failure to use the resources you have given us.
Loving Heavenly Father, realizing that we are sometimes negative in our thinking and critical in our opinion of others, we ask that you will heal our attitudes. Hasten the day of your kingdom, Lord, that all humankind may see it together and find relief from the burdens of living. In the meantime, help us to be followers of Christ, who taught us how to live as if the kingdom were here, sharing what we have with other persons and loving one another for no reason at all, except that you first loved us and Christ died for us to redeem us from emptiness and loneliness. In his name we pray. Amen.
Benediction
Go forth in peace. No! That is too easy. Go forth as peace. Be the healing presence wherever you go, and God will go with you. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Trust in the Lord, and do good, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Amen.
