Proper 26
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: Why Doesn't God Intervene Now?
Call To Worship
Leader: You are righteous, Lord, and your laws are just.
People: Your laws are always true, completely fair, and right.
Leader: Your righteousness will last forever.
People: Give us understanding, and we shall live.
All: Praise be to God!
Collect
Lord, the world is in turmoil --Ênation against nation and brother against brother. The homeless sleep at our doorsteps, and the starving children of the earth cry out for food. The people cry out: "How can God let this happen?" We know that we should be asking: "How can we let this happen?" In this time of worship, renew our faith, open to us avenues of service, give us the courage to proclaim your message of peace and reconciliation, and send us forth as your servants to a very needy world. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of all the nations, we are quick to deny responsibility for permitting the problems of the world to result in great bloodshed, and slow to take responsibility for our own actions or lack of actions that might be part of the problem. Forgive our unwillingness to take a firm stand for peace, and let your Holy Spirit work through us to turn the hearts of people everywhere away from violence. We pray in the name of the Prince of Peace, even Jesus Christ. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, you have provided for our every need. May we now have a part in providing for the physical and spiritual needs of others through these gifts. Amen.
Hymns
"O Worship The King"
"Let My People Seek Their Freedom"
"God Of Grace And God Of Glory"
Proper 26/Ordinary Time 31

Call To Worship
Leader: The world and all that is in it belong to the Lord.
People: The earth and all who live in it are his.
Leader: Fling wide the gates, and the great king will come in. Who is this great king?
People: He is the Lord, strong and mighty.
Leader: Fling wide the gates, open the ancient doors, and the great king will come in.
People: Who is this great king? The triumphant Lord -- he is the great king!
Leader: Come, let us open the gates of our hearts, and let the great king come in as we worship him!

Almighty God, Ruler of the universe, King of all the nations, we invite you to come and reign over our lives that we might complete our work of faith and enter your kingdom. Amen.

Gracious God, forgive our rebellion against you and the times when we have refused to obey your will. Create in us clean hearts and a determination to serve you by serving our neighbors. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord, you have blessed us in so many ways that we cannot count them. These gifts are a small portion of what you have entrusted to our care. Accept them, we pray, with our thanksgiving, and use them for the advancement here on earth of your kingdom. Amen.

Call To Worship
"If with all your heart you truly seek me, you shall surely find me," says our God. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
Come, let us worship together!
Collect
Almighty God, we give you thanks for your Son, Jesus Christ, who showed us that all who are bound by sin can be freed if they turn to you. Bless our time of worship that it may revive our spirits and deepen our concern for all people who do not know you. Send us forth from this time together to seek and to save those who are lost. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord, help us to shed any semblance of exclusiveness in our church that all may feel welcome and find here a place where they will hear the call of Jesus. May they respond to his bidding to come out of their hiding place and welcome Jesus into their lives. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, we, your people, present these tithes and offerings that they may be a blessing to others. Accept them, we pray, and with them ourselves as living sacrifices to be used in your service. Amen.
