Series VI, Cycle B
First Lesson: 1 Samuel 1:4-20
Theme: Hannah's Prayer
Call To Worship
Leader: You, Lord, are all I have, and you give me all I need;
People: how wonderful are your gifts to me; how good they are!
Leader: I praise the Lord, because he guides me.
People: I am always aware of the Lord's presence; he is near and nothing can shake me.
Leader: And so I am thankful and glad, and I feel completely secure.
People: I have served you faithfully, and you will not abandon me.
Collect
Lord, we are desperate when our prayers seem to go unanswered. We come together this morning to give thanks and sing your praises. We are a diverse group with a wide variety of concerns, but we know that you are aware of each of our needs. Hear our petitions, O Lord, and help us to give ourselves in service to you. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God and Father of us all, we come into your presence in the spirit of expectancy. In faith we believe that you are here with us and you will speak to us. May each of us experience the fulfillment of that promise. May we learn to be still, to listen for your word, and then be responsive to your call through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Hymns
"Sweet Hour of Prayer"
"Prayer Is The Soul's Sincere Desire"

Second Lesson: Hebrews 10:11-14 (15-18), 19-25
Theme: A Call To Persevere
Call To Worship
Let us come near to God with a sincere heart and a sure faith, with hearts that have been purified from a guilty conscience.
Come, let us worship together!
Collect
Heavenly Father, we come together as part of your body on earth realizing that we need each other. By ourselves we are weak and limited in what we can accomplish. Together and led by your Spirit we can do much for your kingdom. We need to help one another and encourage each other. Be with us, Lord, and guide us in all that we do. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we read in your Word that when you forgive our waywardness you will no longer remember our sins and evil deeds. We thank you for this undeserved and all-encompassing love and mercy. Encourage us by your Holy Spirit in the new life, the new opportunities, and the new determination to do your will that is ours. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"Lead On, O King Eternal"
"Where Charity And Love Prevail"

Leader: Prepare to meet your Lord, for he will come at an hour when you least expect him.
People: We will do our best to be a people prepared for his coming.

People: We will strive to be children worthy of such a great God.
Collect
Lord, we know that no one can foretell when the end will come and your kingdom will come in all its wonder and glory. Meanwhile, we know that you come to each of us, and when we respond your kingdom has its beginning in our lives. Bless this time of worship that it may be a renewal of that faith. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we don't like to be kept in the dark. We want to be an insider who keeps up with all the latest information. Forgive our impatience, Lord, and teach us to live for today as though it were the last day. Help us to love and serve you with all our heart and mind and soul and strength. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
