Proper 9
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: By Faith We Are Healed
Call To Worship
Leader: Lord, you have changed my sadness into joy.
People: You have taken away my sorrow and surrounded me with joy.
Leader: So I will not be silent; I will sing praise to you.
People: Lord, you are my God; I will give you thanks forever.
Collect
Eternal God, we come before you with hearts filled with thanksgiving and songs of praise for all the blessings you have bestowed upon us. We come, too, with deep concerns about our world and the violence we see all about us. Remove from us any pride that keeps us from trusting your guidance, and loosen our tongues that we may proclaim to everyone your way of love and forgiveness. Use us, we pray, for the building of your kingdom where the nations of the world will study war no more and neighbors will learn to live in harmony and peace. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of justice and mercy, we bow in contrition before you, for we have sinned against your will. We seek your forgiveness for pride and greed that have kept us from loving our neighbors. Be merciful to us who have let anger control our actions, and contributed to the building of walls that separate people rather than seeking your peace. Free us from past mistakes, and enable us to show forth your love in all our words and deeds. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Bless these gifts, O Lord, and those who benefit from them as well as those who brought them to you for the work of your Church. Amen.
Hymns
"Have Thine Own Way, Lord"
"O Christ, The Healer"
"Heal Us, Emmanuel, Hear Our Prayer"
Proper 9/Ordinary Time 14
Sunday between July 3 and July 9 inclusive
Second Lesson: Galatians 6:(1-6) 7-16
Theme: Do Not Tire Of Doing Good
Call To Worship
Leader: I cried to you for help, O Lord my God, and you restored my life.
People: Remember what the Lord has done, and give him thanks!
Leader: Come, let us worship God, the giver of new life. Let us praise him not only with our lips, but with our lives as well.
Collect
Ever-present God, we give you thanks for the revelation of yourself through your Son, Jesus Christ. When we grow weary of doing good, remind us that we are part of the Body of Christ, and that it is through us that his ministry is carried out here on earth. When we are impatient to see results for our labors, speak to us with reassurance that the harvest will come in your time and not ours. Be with us now in our worship that we may realize your presence and hear you speak to each one of us in our time of need. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Almighty God, we have been quick to judge others while at the same time we overlook our own faults and shortcomings. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to take seriously the teachings from your Word that we should judge our own conduct, and that as often as we have opportunity we should do good to others. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, we have responded to your call to serve, and now we present these tithes and offerings that they may be used to ease the burdens of others. Keep us ever mindful of the needs of others, we pray, and help us to respond as we are able. Amen.
Hymns
"Christ For The World We Sing"
"Pass It On"
"Dear Lord And Father Of Mankind"
Proper 9/Ordinary Time 14
Sunday between July 3 and July 9 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Luke 10:1-11, 16-20
Theme: A Large Harvest But Few Workers
Call To Worship
Leader: The Lord is in his holy temple.
People: Let all the earth keep silence before him.
Leader: O come, let us worship and bow down.
People: Let us kneel before the Lord our maker!
Collect
Lord of the harvest, impress upon us in this time of worship the need for laborers to go out into the fields and bring those who have not yet accepted you as Savior into the fold of your Church. Give to each of us the faith that will enable us to do our share of the work, and grant that we may find joy in our sharing of your love. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, so many times we have failed to proclaim your love and to bear witness to your forgiveness, which is available to all who truly turn to you. Forgive us, we pray, and fill us with your Holy Spirit that we may become bold in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
With these gifts, Lord, we rededicate ourselves to going forth to the harvest that others may know the joy we now have as your children. Amen.
Hymns
"Holy Spirit, Truth Divine"
"Jesus Calls Us"
"Softly And Tenderly Jesus Is Calling"
