Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VII, Cycle C
Object:
Gospel Lesson: Luke 13:31-35
Theme: Oh, Jerusalem
Call To Worship (based on Psalm 27)
One: God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
All: So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.
Women: Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
Men: So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on your name.
Younger: My soul is satisfied as with a rich feast and my mouth praises you with joyful lips
Older: when I think of you on my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
Upstairs: for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.
Downstairs: My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
All: O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you.
Collect
Lord, your mercy and your goodness are without price. You remember us when we feel forgotten, and seek us out when we convince ourselves to hide from you. We turn to you willingly this morning, calling upon your name, confident in your power, and hopeful in our prayers. In our worship together we will strive to be faithful. Let our witness to your glory be greater than our intent, so that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we know how great the needs are in the rest of the world. We know the suffering that is all around us. We lift up in our prayers today the sorrows of those we may never meet in this life, but whose situation is heavy in our hearts. We come boldly to the throne of grace with our own joys and concerns as well, confident that your love for us is as great as for your children everywhere. Hear our prayers as well as all the prayers lifted today. Hear the prayers of those who may not know how to pray. Mold us and make us into your people even as you heal us and save us. Lord, these things we pray in your mighty name. Amen.
