Call To Worship
Leader: How shall we serve our God who has blessed us in so many ways?
People: We serve him best by serving those of his children who stand in dire need, particularly those who are oppressed and denied freedom of thought.
Leader: Let us praise the Lord with our lips and our lives, walking in the way of holiness and love.
People: Thank you, God, for giving us the greatest gift, the chance to serve you and yours.
Collect
God of mercy, look upon your children who are kept prisoners by abuse, poverty, and discrimination. May we never remain silent when our voice can be lifted on their behalf.
May this time of worship provide us with the inspiration, the motivation, and the insight to act on their behalf. We ask in Jesus'Òname. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times when our own welfare has kept us from taking action that would carry out your will. Forgive us for the times we have expressed love with our lips but have denied it by the way we live our lives. Forgive us for the times we were sure of your will, but only did what pleased us. Renew a right spirit within us, Lord, and free us to do your will. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Where Cross The Crowded Ways Of Life"
"Lift Every Voice And Sing"
Proper 21/Ordinary Time 26
Sunday between September 25 and October 1 inclusive
Second Lesson: James 5:13-20
Theme: The Prayer Of Faith
Call To Worship
Let us thank the Lord who has not let our enemies destroy us.
Those enemies could be sickness, sorrow, selfishness, suspicion, anger, anxiety, arrogance, or a host of other enemies of the soul.
Come, let us worship the Lord who made heaven and earth and from whom our help comes!
Collect
Lord, in the face of many trials and troubles that besiege us we often feel helpless and alone. Remind us once again that the Scriptures counsel those who are in trouble to pray, and that all of us in the fellowship of the Church are to pray for others. Renew our faith in the power of prayer and in your eternal presence. We ask in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, we confess that we have often felt powerless in the face of need because we couldn't figure out a solution to the problem. Forgive us, we pray, and keep us ever mindful of the power of prayer and faith that solutions come from you, Almighty God. Amen.
Hymns
"Sweet Hour Of Prayer"
"This Is My Song"
Proper 21/Ordinary Time 26
Sunday between September 25 and October 1 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Mark 9:38-50
Theme: Not Everyone Who Serves The Lord Belongs To Our Denomination
Call To Worship
Leader: Worship the Lord with joy.
People: We come before him with happy songs!
Leader: Acknowledge that the Lord is God.
People: He made us and we belong to him.
Leader: The Lord is good; his love is eternal.
People: His faithfulness lasts forever.
Collect
O Lord and Master of us all, set our hearts on fire with the desire to know your will, and send us among your people to serve them in love. Free us from fear so that the Good News of Jesus may reach the world through us without hurt or hindrance. Give us hearts full of love, eyes to see the needs of others, and hands open to help. In your precious name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, we confess that there are times when our faith waivers, doubts beset us, and we are hindered in our desire to serve you and you alone. By the power of your Spirit enable us to cut ourselves free from all such obstacles that we may have the salt of friendship, and live at peace with one another. For Christ's sake we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord"
"Jesus Shall Reign"
