Spiritual blindness and discipleship
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
For his last report of a healing prior to Jesus' dramatic and
final trip to Jerusalem, Mark describes the case of Bartimaeus.
Positioned as it is immediately after yet another incident in
which the disciples have shown their own "blindness" to their
master and his message, Mark here apparently wants to suggest
more than the need for physical visual acuity when he reports
that the healed Bartimaeus then followed Jesus "on the way."
Liturgical Color:
Green
Suggested Hymns:
O Son Of God, In Galilee
Your Hand, O Lord, In Days Of Old
O God, Whose Will Is Love And Good
Amazing Grace, How Sweet The Sound
God, Whose Almighty Word
Sing Praise To God, The Highest Good
Proper 25 ù Pentecost 23 ù OT 30
We know what we want, Lord.
We have a long list!
We want prestige and status.
We want to be recognized for our talent.
We want to be successful.
We want a secure retirement.
We want our children to go to college.
We want a long and healthy life.
We want grandchildren.
... a new car might be nice too!
Yes, we have a long list!
You call upon us to take a look at our wants and
to balance them over against our needs.
There is a difference!
Help us to see this difference
and not to overlook it.
Increase our faith, Lord,
so that we know what we truly need.
Amen.
