Object:
An envelope with a piece of paper folded and placed within it. (If you can afford it, place a stamp on the envelope.)
Purpose: To motivate children to take some responsibility for filling up their free time with worthwhile activities.
Material: An envelope with a piece of paper folded and placed within it. (If you can afford it, place a stamp on the envelope.)
Lesson: Summer is a special time of the year. There are many things you can do, both inside and outside. Tell me, what do you like to do in the summer? ... And what do you do when it is too hot to be outside, or when it rains? ...
Today, I would like to suggest something that you might do when you have to be inside. Here is an envelope and a piece of paper that you can use to send a message to someone. If you cannot write, draw a picture; you might even do both. The important thing is that you want to let this other person know that you are thinking about him or her.
One of the ways we have of showing people that we care about them is to share something with them. In the summer, you can share with your friends as you play with them or do other things together. But it is also important to share your life with people who are away from you. Summer is a good time to think about how you can do this. Remembering others is an important part of life that all of us need to keep in mind.
Possible Times To Use This Illustration In The Home:
• When your child says there is nothing to do, or that he or she is bored.
• When a friend has moved away, or you have moved away.
