As we consider the many things that call us to God and worship, one powerful item may be overlooked, especially in our work with children. That is the use of symbols. A symbol is something that points beyond itself to something else. In our case, we want to consider symbols that point to the holy. These are little shorthand messages from God and about God that abound in our daily lives and in our sanctuaries if we have eyes to see. These spiritual indicators are like signposts on the way. We seek to help our children become conversant in the language of these signs.
