Call To Worship (Psalm 117)
One:
Praise the Lord, all you nations! Extol him, all you peoples!
All:
For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!
Collect
Lord, today we pray for all who might seem to be beyond your redeeming love. We know this is not so -- you who are all powerful will go to any length to find us, heal us, save us. May we in our worship and in our service become prophets of your peace. May it be so, in your name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Would that we knew the things that make for peace! How the mighty have fallen! Even now, God, you call to us, begging us to turn away from our hatred and suspicion. You take no joy in the fall of sinners, but desire earnestly that all should turn to you, and that all your children should be reconciled to each other. May we work for true peace, joyful reunion, ardent reconciliation. Let peace begin with each of us here today, and end with the restoration of your righteousness throughout the world. Amen.
Hymns
Turn Back, O Man
Let There Be Peace On Earth (And Let It Begin With Me)
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Proper 8 / Ordinary Time 13
Sunday between June 26 and July 2 inclusive
Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 8:7-15
Theme: His Loss, Our Gain
Call To Worship
Empty the till, follow the will of the Son who was poor. Adore evermore. For our sake he has taken the cross and forsaken the wealth of the king. Bring with eagerness more than the meager, bless and confess, address the pain of the world with our loss and their gain! Remain. Abstain. Obtain the grace freely given. Live and adore evermore. Amen.
Collect
Great God, we give you back your own, the time you have woven for us in our passing, our coming and going. This time which was your time is our time. We praise you, adore you, and serve you. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (based on 2 Corinthians 8:9)
We know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for our sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty we might become rich. Therefore we will eagerly finish the task you have set for us, Jesus, Savior, God, that others may know the richness of the forgiveness and salvation that is set aside for all. Amen.
Hymns
God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending (Hyfrydol)
We Give Thee But Thine Own
Take My Life And Let It Be
Proper 8 / Ordinary Time 13
Sunday between June 26 and July 2 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Mark 5:21-43
Theme: Plot Complications
Call To Worship (based on Mark 5:36)
Come, God's people. Shed your doubts. Hear the words of Jesus: "Do not fear, only believe."
Collect
Present God, we believe you are absent in our pain and suffering. Call us, and carry us, create in us a pure and believing heart. Around the world we are all calling to you. Hear us. Hear me. Heal us. Heal me. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We believe in the God of healing, the God who wills our wholeness, the God who sustains us when the world derides us. We believe despite our fears. Amen.
