Call To Worship (based on Psalm 147:16-18, 15)
One:
Praise the Lord!
All:
He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes.
One:
He hurls down hail like crumbs -- who can stand before his cold?
All:
He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow, and the waters flow.
One:
He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly.
All:
Praise the Lord!
Collect
Our messenger has arrived, Lord God, and we listen to the news! We left weeping, but we come back with consolations and joy! Amen, Lord God! Amen!
Prayer Of Confession
Power and glory, power and glory, you have not left us without your witnesses here upon the earth. God of majesty, hear our prayer, and grant that we might be among those you gather from around the world into your family. Amen.
Hymns
Majesty
Praise, I Will Praise You Lord
You Shall Go Out With Joy
Second Sunday After Christmas
Second Lesson: Ephesians 1:3-14
Theme: The Fine Print Is Fine!
Call To Worship
Come, people of God, and sing God's praises. Come, children of God, and raise God's song. Gather together as one, within and beyond these walls!
Collect
The best of our lives are God's good pleasure. Come, let us lift our hearts unto the Lord in praise and thanksgiving. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Clear our accounts and we clear our hearts of old resentments and grudges. Fill the rooms of our hearts emptied of all distractions, that we might become living lights of witness to your glory. Amen.
Hymns
Great Is The Lord
Lord, I Lift Your Name On High
Sanctuary
Second Sunday After Christmas
Gospel Lesson: John 1:10-18
Theme: Do I Know You?
Call To Worship
God made us. God knows us. God claims us. Come together, God's people, in this name above all names.
Collect
God's Word is alive and moves in our midst. God's Word won't stand still. God's Word tents among us, pulls up stakes, and is gone. Today we pledge to seize what is precious in this day that we might become vessels of light in your name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
John the Baptist attracted attention to himself only to deflect it toward you, O Living Word. Lord Jesus, we fear to attract attention to ourselves for fear of what people might think. Fill our minds that we might think through the gift of the testimony that is still made flesh in our words, with your strength. Amen.
Hymns
Lead Us, O Father
Now Thank We All Our God
For We Are Strangers No More
