Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VII, Cycle B
Call To Worship
Easter's not over, Jesus is still risen, and there's a world out there that needs to know it. Come worship, then get out of here to become God's will in the world.
Collect
God of all nations, we thank you for the community of faith in which we are grounded. Help us to look both inward as we minister to each other with mutual aid, and outward as we recognize the whole family of humanity as our sisters and brothers. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Mine, mine, mine. Mine, mine, mine. Mine, mine, mine. Lord, the more we say it, the sillier it sounds. Mine, mine, mine. Coffee farmers in the third world get next to nothing for their crops, but I complain about what I pay for their product. Mine, mine, mine. I'm always looking for a bargain, even if it means my clothes are made in a sweat shop. Mine, mine, mine. I refuse to follow the paper trail, preferring to live in ignorance while my actions condemn people around the world to perpetual poverty. Mine, mine, mine. Praise God, thank you for my salvation, glad that's taken care of, I'll talk to you later, Lord. Amen.
Hymns
In Christ There Is No East Or West
Will You Let Me Be Your Servant
God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again
Second Sunday Of Easter
Second Lesson: 1 John 1:1--2:2
Theme: The Truth In Us And About Us
Call To Worship
Jesus is our atoning sacrifice. Come, let us abide in him together.
Collect
God stands in the gap and suffers when we sin. Let us resolve as God's people to stand up for others as witnesses to the light. Lord God, strengthen us in this effort. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (from 1 John 1:8-10; 2:1-2)
One:
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Two:
If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Three:
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
All:
Jesus Christ, the righteous ... is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. Amen.
Hymns
Come, Ye Faithful, Raise The Strain
Ask Ye What Great Thing I Know
I Love To Tell The Story
Second Sunday Of Easter
Gospel Lesson: John 20:19-31
Theme: Believing Thomas
Call To Worship (built around John 20:29 and 28)
One:
Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.
All:
My Lord and my God!
Collect (based on John 20:31)
So much more to tell, so much more to write, so much more to know, but we've been told enough, read enough, know enough, that we have come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing we have life in his name. We pray in his name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
One:
Unless we see signs and wonders, unless we see a hand writing on the wall, unless we see arks being built, unless we see donkeys talking and seas dividing and rocks flowing with water and manna dropping and the dead rising and loaves with fishes multiplying, unless we see his wounds so we can touch with our own fingers, we will not believe.
Two:
Signs and wonders? We believe, our Lord and our God! We believe! Amen.
Hymns
Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine
