Third Sunday After Epiphany
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: The Light Has Come
Call To Worship
Leader: God is forever calling us --
People: calling us from darkness to light;
Leader: calling us from where we are to where we should be;
People: calling us from despair to hope;
Leader: calling us from aimlessness to purpose;
People: calling us from silence to witness.
All: Come, let us worship together and hear that call!
Invocation
You know, Lord, that in our world there is much darkness: so much crime, so much anger, so many wars, so much anxiety. Help us through the inspiration of this time of worship, to experience the deep peace that can come only from you.
Yet we come not to escape the realities of the world, but to receive the strength and the power that we might show forth your Light, and be instruments in your hands to drive the darkness away. Enable us not only to be peace receivers, but also to become peace makers. Amen.
Confession
Our Father in heaven, the map is clearly marked, but we have lost our way. The way is brilliantly lighted, but we have closed our eyes. The truth is carefully explained, but we have become confused. Forgive us, Lord, for our lack of attention, for our slowness of mind, for our hardness of heart. Then put a new spirit within us igniting again our fervent desire to walk with you in holiness. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Receive these gifts, O God, with our prayer that they will be effective in reaching people who walk in darkness that they may see a great light, even Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hymns
"Come, Thou Almighty King"
"Christ, Whose Glory Fills The Skies"
"This Is My Father's World"
