Transfiguration Sunday
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle B
First Lesson: 2 Kings 2:1-12
Theme: The Lord's Spirit Stays With Us
Call To Worship
May this time of worship be a mountaintop experience for you.
Let this hour transform your life as God reveals himself to you through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Come, let us sing our praise to God, and offer up our prayers of thanksgiving.
Collect
Our God and our Father, how wonderful it is that we can turn and call upon you. We know you as the very source of all that is, but more importantly we realize you are a gentle, caring, and loving Father who wants the best for each one of us. It is good to be able to come now, just as we are, and be assured of your accepting, forgiving, and restoring love. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, when we are tempted to feel that you have deserted us and left us to our own devices, remind us that your Spirit is always with us. With the assurance of your abiding presence enable us to face life's difficulties with determination and hope. Amen.
Hymns
"Abide With Me"
"Sweet, Sweet Spirit"

Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 4:3-6
Theme: Let Your Light Shine
Call To Worship
Leader: Jesus Christ is the Light of the World.
People: Let that Light shine through us.
Leader: We proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord.
People: It is for his sake that we are servants of our neighbors.
Leader: Come, let us worship our Lord and Master.
Collect
Almighty God, we come with open minds and hearts that we might better understand your Word. Speak to us that we may know your will as we go forth to let your Light shine through us that others may know the glory of God and his everlasting love. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, sometimes we are so wrapped up in our efforts to live as loyal disciples that we forget it is not to show how good we are but to let your Light shine through us. We ask your forgiveness now, and pray that with your Spirit working in us we may keep our motives clear. Amen.
Hymns
"This Little Light Of Mine"
"Let There Be Light"

Gospel Lesson: Mark 9:2-9
Theme: The Transfiguration
Call To Worship
When Jesus was with three of his disciples on a high mountain they heard a voice from heaven say, "This is my own dear Son -- listen to him." As we gather this morning for a mountaintop experience let us listen to what Jesus, the Son of God, has to say to us.
Collect
Lord, we have come apart this morning that we might get away from the distractions of everyday life and draw near to you. As we hear again the story of your Transfiguration may we realize that all those who have gone before us continue to live in you. Remind us again that we cannot dwell apart from the world in these high moments of spiritual insight. Empower us to go from this time of worship back into the world with the message that you are indeed the Son of God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, in this time of worship we would confess our sins, accept your forgiveness, and renew our commitment. Touch us in your marvelous way, Lord. Then use us according to your will. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Christ, Upon The Mountain Peak"
"O Wondrous Sight! O Vision Fair"
