The Triumph Of The Lamb
Worship
LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series VII, Cycle A
Call To Worship (Isaiah 53: 4-5)
One: Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted.
All: But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed.
Collect
Let your words about your suffering servant cause us to tremble, Lord. Let your words strike to the core of our souls. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lamb of God, before you are revealed in triumph in the pages of the Revelation, we see your cruel wounds applied by heartless souls. What part did we have in all this? Which wounds were inflicted by us without knowing? Which wounds were inflicted by us and we knew? Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world - have mercy on us. Amen.
Hymns
"Ride On, Ride On In Majesty"
"Nearer My God To Thee"
"What Wondrous Love Is This?"
Good Friday
Second Lesson: Hebrews 10:16-25
Theme: The Day Is Approaching
Call To Worship (Jeremiah 31:33-34)
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, "Know the Lord," for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.
Collect
Lord, we approach your throne with confidence, even in this dark hour, knowing that your Son was the pioneer of our perfection, running the course to its end, even to dark Calvary. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, remember our sins no more. Tear the curtain that separates us in two and call us into your presence. We confess the sins that made this sacrifice necessary. We accept your forgiveness. We are your people. Amen.
Hymns
"Beneath The Cross Of Jesus"
"Calvary: Ev'ry Time I Think About Jesus"
"O Sacred Head Now Wounded"
Good Friday
Gospel Lesson: John 18:1-19:42
Theme: What Is Truth?
Call To Worship
Let us prepare with humility and holy purpose to hear again the story of the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth, naked and bleeding, nailed to a cross, on a public crossroads, on a false charge of treason. Jesus of Nazareth, Savior, Lord, and King.
Collect
Pray for us Lord. In your agony think of us. We don't know what to say in the face of your suffering, of your sacrificing love. We throw ourselves upon your mercy. We are your children. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We are asked if we are one of the disciples of Jesus and we deny it. Not once, not twice, but three times. We are asked to choose between the Lord of life and the bandit. We are attracted to notoriety and headlines. We choose the bandit. We are asked to stand by our Lord during his time of agony. We are afraid. We hide. Lord, there is nothing left for us but to admit our shortcomings and beg your forgiveness. Hear us from the cross. Save us in your death. Amen.
Hymns
"Were You There?"
"When I Survey the Wondrous Cross"
"That Old Rugged Cross"
Easter Day
(Resurrection Of Our Lord)
First Lesson: Acts 10:34-43
Theme: We Can't See This Enough
Call To Worship (Acts 10:39-40)
We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day...!
Collect
Lord, we leave the darkness behind forever. The tomb is empty and you are risen. We are your children of the light. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Risen Lord, we confessed that our sins led to your death on the cross. Now our sorrow is turned to joy as you call us to join you in the resurrection. Pioneer of our destiny, we follow to glory. Amen.
Hymns
"They Crucified My Savior"
"Thine Is The Glory"
"You Shall Go Out With Joy"
