A Warm, Steamy Bath

Matthew To Revelation
Object: a big bath towel
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you took a bath last night? (let them raise their hands) Was it hot and steamy? I just love to take a bath and feel the hot water roll over me. I don't know if I always liked to take a bath, but I surely do like it now. How many of you can remember a time when your mother or father put a big bath towel like this one around you after your bath and gave you a big hug? (take a big bath towel and wrap it around one of the children so that they can associate the feeling) That really feels good, doesn't it? It makes you feel like you really belong, or that you are completely safe, doesn't it?
That is the way that we should feel after we have been baptized and made Christians. It is like being wrapped in a big towel by your mother or father. You really know that you belong, because Jesus gives you his name and makes you one of his own. That is the wonderful part about being baptized. You become part of Jesus' family. It is great to know that Jesus is your brother and God is your Father. That is one of the promises that comes with baptism.
Everybody doesn't have that privilege. Your mother or father wraps the big towel around you to show that she or he loves you and really cares about you.
Jesus is that way with baptism. When you are baptized, it is something very special and it is a great gift. Perhaps you will remember how much Jesus cares the next time that you take a bath and your mother or father puts a big towel around you. And when you think about how much Jesus cares, you can also think about your baptism and how you became a member of God's family. That is something to know and be very happy about.
