Object: a coloring book, a novel, a toy car, a set of car keys
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you can hardly wait until you are grown up and can do the things that your mom and dad do now? (let them answer) That's good. We want you to want to grow up. It would not be any fun always to be a child, even though many adults wish that they could go back to being what you are today.
There are some big differences between being a child and being a mom or dad. I brought along some things that are somewhat alike and still are a lot different. First of all I have a coloring book. How many of you like to color in a book like this with different colored crayons? Almost all of you. This coloring book is a child's book and you should like it. (hold up the novel) This is an adult book and adults like this kind of book as much as you like a coloring book. I have something else that many children like to play with. (hold up the toy car) How many of you have cars like this? That's good. You should like to play with toys. I also have a set of keys to a real car. (hold up the car keys) Most men and women enjoy driving a car. Even if you wished that you could drive a car, you know that you would not be able to do so for some years until you grow up. There are certain things that belong to children, and there are certain things that belong to adults.
There is a good reason why I have shown you the difference between what it is to be an adult and what it is to be a child. The same thing is true about being a Christian now and being a Christian with God after death in the next life. Now we only understand a little bit about how good it is to be a Christian. When we die and start our new life with Christ in God's new world, we will understand much more and we will like it even better. Being a Christian now is wonderful, but the new life with Jesus will be terrific. Now you like to play with little cars, but I know that you will enjoy driving one of your own on the highway even better. Now you know what it is to be a Christian even though you do not understand everything about God and what he is really like. Now we know a little but when we go to live with God forever, we will understand more, much more.
That is why everyone here on earth is like a child to God, and our grown--up days are all after we leave this earth and go to live with God forever.
