Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Courageous God, you took such a huge risk when you placed your world into the hands of fallible human beings, and it generally looks as though your gamble has failed. Our world is full of pollution and violence and pornography and other evils. Yet our Christian hope is that you will redeem all that, just as you yourself rose from death to vibrant, exciting, new life.
Courageous God, I'm terrified of taking big risks, because I'm so sure I'll fail and I can't face the pain of degradation and humiliation. So I keep utterly safe, by sticking closely to the rules and never raising my head above the parapet. Help me Lord, to begin to take risks so that I may grow and realise within myself the vibrant, exciting, new life you offer me. And remind me that risks taken holding your hand are really no risks at all.

Courageous God, we pray that any dark places within your Church will be filled with light. Help your Church to take necessary risks, especially the risk of loving all human beings. May your Church encourage all the talents of all members, that all Christians may know their own worth in your eyes. With Christians world-wide we pray especially today for your Church in Nigeria with Archbishop Joseph Adetiloye and your Church in Manchester (UK) with Bishop Christopher Mayhew.

Courageous God, may the darkness of life on the earth be dispelled for all people. We remember before you those who live in poverty and constant hunger, suffering from diseases which are easily treated in the West. We pray for children who are orphaned or brutalised through war or violence. And we pray for those who increase darkness through the peddling of drugs or pornography. May all these human beings receive your light and your transformation in their lives. We pray especially today for...
