God Of The Outcast And The Unkempt And The Drop-Out...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
God of the outcast and the unkempt and the drop-out,
Many of my 'neighbours' are invisible to me. The waitress in the restaurant, the lonely old widower who won't stop talking and won't let me go, the woman who always whinges however much is done for her. Lord, I can love the loveable (after a fashion), but I'm completely unable to even pretend to like the unloveable. Yet all of these are my neighbours.
Lord, your huge love pours over me, saturating me, yet because I can't face some of my neighbours, I make sure they remain invisible.
Lord, I'm ashamed. Help me. Please.
God of Creation, you made us in your image that we might produce good fruit. We pray for centres of learning throughout the world, that those who teach and those who learn may find you to be the source of all truth. We pray for our own parish, that we may remain firmly in you as we seek your guidance in our parish life.
With Christians worldwide we hold in your presence today the South East Province of the USA, and its President, Mrs Scott Evans, and Harnosand in the Church of Sweden, with its leader, Karl-Johan Tyreberg.
God of justice, your "foolishness" is to love enemies and to strive for peace. We pray for all those people throughout the world who live in strife and the fear of violence, and who suffer from warfare. At this troubled time, we remember especially the people of ....
God of compassion, we cling to you as our strong and supportive centre, which enables us and allows us to become foolish in the eyes of the world. May all those who have married recently, or who are to marry soon, learn that their strength comes from you. We hold in your presence too, all those who are bringing their children to be baptised during this summer season.
God of the future, we bring into your presence all those who need your special nourishment. We pray that they may be firmly fixed in you, and you in them. Lay your healing hands on those who are sick, those we name before you in our own hearts .....
God of love, some of our friends feel hurt and bereft because someone they love has died, either recently or in previous years at this time. May they feel your arms around them, giving them the help and support and love they need. Especially we remember the family and friends of ....
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
