A prayer for the Golden Jubilee
God of inner strength, on this occasion of the Golden Jubilee of her coming to reign, we pray for our sovereign, Queen Elizabeth the Second. As we thank you for her life, her gentleness and her great devotion to duty, we ask that her inner peace and security may be strengthened. May she be aware of the love and loyalty of her subjects and their deep desire for her well-being. Help her through the sadness of her recent bereavements and give her, we pray, long life, health and happiness.
We ask this through the King of Kings, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
God of inner strength, your Church must always strike the correct balance between holding fast to the faith and showing compassion and understanding for those who have different beliefs or different life-styles. Through Jesus Christ you held this balance perfectly, challenging where necessary, condemning hypocrisy, but always displaying great love. Help your Church to be so grounded and rooted in you, that all we - the body of your Church - display your characteristics in our lives and our relationships.
We join the world-wide Church in praying especially today for the people of Aoteara, New Zealand and Polynesia, with their presiding Bishop, John Paterson, and the people of Skara, Sweden, with their Bishop, Lars-Goran Lonnermark.

God of inner strength, in the world we see only too clearly the dangers of fanaticism. Be with those who feel so strongly about a particular issue that they become irrational. May those who are prepared to give their own lives for their cause realise that to take the lives of others is an act of the greatest evil. And may all politicians seek a peaceful solution to their differences, daring to give generously and to begin to love their enemies.

God of inner strength, be very close to all who find it difficult to commit their lives to you. May those who experience family difficulties over the expression of their religion discover the right way to move forward in faith. May all who want to follow you but find they have based their lives on shifting sand, discover the solid foundation and inner strength that commitment to you brings. And may our children discover for themselves that faith in you is a pearl of such great price that it's worth more than anything else that the world has to offer.
