Risen God...
Intercession
Prayers usually include these concerns and may follow this sequence:
The Church of Christ
Creation, human society, the Sovereign and those in authority
The local community
Those who suffer
The communion of saints
These responses may be used:
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Lord, hear us.
Lord, graciously hear us.
Risen God, you loved human beings so much that when they wanted to kill you, you let them. And you still went on loving them and forgiving them. When I drive the nails into your hands and your feet by my attitudes and my arrogance and my lack of love, please forgive me. May I so identify with your sacrifice for me that I too am able to face my own little bit of crucifixion, then I too will discover resurrection and a new richness of life.
Risen God, your love for human beings bought resurrection for all of us. May I so learn to love, that I too experience resurrection.
Risen God, when your Spirit sweeps through the Church it results in new and amazing life for the Church. But releasing old attitudes and old ways can produce the pain of crucifixion. May all those who suffer pain in the Church maintain their own integrity and love through their pain, so that your whole Church may experience the joy and excitement of resurrection.
With Christians worldwide we pray on this Easter Sunday for the Church in Jerusalem, and its Bishop, Riah El-Assal.
Risen God, as new ways of being Church are given to us, may the pain of loss result in resurrection and new life. We pray today for the Church in Jerusalem.
Risen God, many areas in conflict with each other declare a cease-fire over special holidays like Easter. We pray that all nations may so marvel at your sacrifice of love for us on the cross, that peace amongst nations may be deep and long lasting. May the world so love that it experiences resurrection and new life in the glory that you have waiting for us. May those who continue to destroy human life be brought to account, and may they realise that such actions are not compatible with a God of love.
Today we pray especially for your Holy Land, where three great religions find it so difficult to live in harmony with each other.
Risen God, may peace amongst nations may be deep and long lasting, and may those who destroy human life be brought to account. Today we pray especially for your Holy Land.
Risen God, for most of us our own community, however small, is the centre of our life. May communities which are depressed receive new life. May communities which are struggling receive the help they need. May communities which are divided receive healing. May communities which are oblivious to suffering receive awareness. And in our community, may we learn what it really means to love one another.
In our country we pray especially today for our Royal Family, as they face yet another death of a beloved member in such a short time. We remember especially before you our Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, and the Prince of Wales and the young princes as they return from their skiing holiday.
Risen God, we pray for communities, that each may receive the help or healing or new life that it needs. In our country we pray especially today for the Royal Family as they mourn the death of the Queen Mother.
Risen God, at this time of new life we place those who are sick into your loving care. May they recognise you as their risen Lord and receive the gift of your healing. We name them now before you....
Risen God, we pray that those who are sick may receive the gift of your healing. We name them before you....
Risen God, when you rose from death on that first Easter day, you promised the same for all of us - that our damaged bodies or minds would be healed and that we too would experience an amazing new life, living and loving with you. We hold in your presence those of our loved ones who have died, either recently or in previous years at this time, and we pray especially for those they have left behind them.... We thank you for the life of our beloved Queen Mother, and the wonderful Christian example of love and caring and enjoyment and humour which she gave to the whole country.
Risen God, since that first Easter day you have promised us an amazing new life after death. We remember before you those who have died, and pray for the families and friends left behind on this earth.... We thank you for the loving, caring and fun life of the Queen Mother - her Christian example to us all.
Merciful Father,
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
