Advent calendar
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: This is the first Sunday of Advent and a new church
year. Help your students create their own Advent calendars. Give
each student a larger sheet of paper (poster board size would
work well). You should create calendars with enough room to write
things in for the days of Advent. For the Sundays of Advent have
them write the following:
Sunday, November 28, Advent 1, Mark 13:24-37 (Common followers), Mark 13:33-37 (Lutheran followers)
Sunday, December 5, Advent 2, Mark 1:1-8
Sunday, December 12, Advent 3, John 1:6-8, 19-20
Sunday, December 19, Advent 4, Luke 1:26-38
Friday, December 24, Christmas Eve
Saturday, December 25, Christmas Day
If your church has events planned in Advent that you wish to have your students write in their calendars, suggest that option. If there are birthdays or special events in Advent, students should add those to their calendar. As an Advent theme suggest students write "Advent 1993 -- Be Alert." Advent is a time of waiting and watching for Jesus.
Parents: Your child created an Advent calendar. Post it in your home or in your child's room. In this way, your child can begin to understand that the season of Advent is a time of waiting and watching for Jesus.
