Good morning! I brought a few cards to show you today. Do
you know what these are? (Show the cards and let them answer.)
Yes, these are baseball cards. Here are ... (describe the people
on the cards). Do any of you collect these kinds of cards? (Let
them answer.)
Now why do we have these people on cards like this? We don't
have cards for ordinary people like you and me. Why do we have
them for these people? (Let them answer.) Yes, these people are
famous because they play baseball and they're very good at it. If
you wanted to grow up and be a baseball player, would you say
that these people are good examples for you? (Let them answer.)
Yes, they are. They are good players and they provide a good
example for us to follow if we want to be like them.
None of you may ever be a famous baseball player and have
your picture on a card, but God wants you to be a good example
also. God wants people to look at you and say to themselves, "Now
there is a really good example of what a Christian ought to be."
If people know that we go to church and that we are proud to be
Christians and then we do something bad like stealing or using
bad language, will we be good examples? (Let them answer.) No, of
course not. We would be really bad examples. What are some things
we could do that would make us really good examples of what a
Christian ought to be? (Let them answer.) Yes, those are all good
things to do. Let's ask God to help us be good examples.
Dear God: We want to be good examples of what Christians really
are. Help us to overcome all temptations to do wrong and lead us
to do the right things so that others will see us as good
examples. Amen.
