Be prepared
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: The scripture reminds us to be prepared; for our
Messiah is coming. With this theme, create a game based on the
scripture theme. The game is a variation of "The Memory Game."
Cut 15 pieces of paper or card stock, each two by two inches.
Each card will have one word written on one side. Leave the other
side blank. We suggest the following seven words (each word goes
on two cards): Honey, Jordan River, Messenger, Sandals, Water and
John. Only one card will state "Be Prepared." These are words
from today's scripture. If you wish, you may draw pictures to
represent these words. Mix up the cards and lay them in rows on a
table so that the words may not be seen. You might have two or
three students play at a time. As turns are taken, each student
may turn over two cards. As matches are found, the student
finding the match may keep them. When matches are not found, turn
the cards over again in their same spot. When the "Be Prepared"
card is turned over, the game is over. The winner may be the
student who discovers the "Be Prepared" card, or the student with
the most matches, whichever you decide. As a longer version, omit
the "Be Prepared" card. Students must "be prepared" to play this
game, even without the card.
Parents: "Be Prepared" is today's theme. If you have a version of "The Memory Game," play it with your child, to practice being prepared. Have your child recreate the "Be Prepared" version of the game played during Sunday school.
