Children's Activity
Materials:
Popsicle (craft) sticks
Thick craft glue
Small beads or aquarium rocks in a variety of colors
Paper plate (optional)
Yarn, plastic lanyard, or colorful string
Directions:
1.
Before class, drill a small hole near the tops of enough popsicle (craft) sticks for each child to have one. This will allow them to string the necklace.
2.
Give the children each two popsicle (craft) sticks, one with a hole in it and one without. Have them glue the two together in the shape of a cross, making sure to have the hole at the top.
3.
Have the children cover the front side of their crosses entirely with glue.
4.
Help the children place beads/rocks on their crosses in any pattern they desire. They may also press their crosses onto a plateful of beads/rocks to speed up the process.
5.
Allow the crosses to dry completely.
6.
Give the children each a piece of yarn, a lanyard, or string long enough to thread through the holes of the crosses so they may be worn around the children's necks.
