Do you know this man?
Children's sermon
Object:
a small picture of Jesus
Good morning! Have you ever seen one of those movies where
the police are looking for someone and they show a picture of the
person to people and ask them if they know the man? (Let them
answer.) Sometimes, the person looking at the picture really does
know the person, but they deny it because they don't want to be
involved in any trouble with the police. They're afraid that if
they admit that they know who it is, they will have to do
something that they don't want to do.
Has something like that ever happened to you? Have you ever
been asked if you knew somebody, but denied it because you were
ashamed of that person or for some other reason didn't want
people to know that you knew them? (Let them answer.)
Let me show you a picture of someone now and ask you, do you
know this man? (Show the picture and let them answer.) Yes, that
is Jesus and here in the church you are glad to say that you know
him. But, what about outside the church? Are you always willing
to admit that you know him any time, any place? (Let them
answer.) Well, I truly hope that you are, because if you deny
him, he will deny you. We must be ready in all places, at any
time, to admit that we are Christians, good friends of Jesus. Do
you think you will always be willing to say that you know him and
that he is your friend? (Let them answer.)
Dearest Friend, Jesus: We do know you and are so thankful that
you know us and love us. Keep us strong in faith so that we will
never deny you. Amen.
