Follow God's directions
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: We would all like our children to
follow our directions. The older they get, the more likely they
are to follow directions of someone or something that will take
them where we don't want them to go. If we can show them the
value of following God's directions early, it will be more likely
that they will do it when they are older.
* Play a game of "Simon Says," but use "God Says" instead of
Simon. When you are done with the game, talk about the importance
of following God's directions and where we go to look for His
directions.
* Split the children into teams, and then hand out treasure
maps that you have drawn to each team. The treasure can be any
kind of prize you want which can be shared by all the children on
the team. Have a special prize for the team which finds their
treasure first. You can make the maps very simple for younger
children or more complex for the older ones. When the game is
over, talk about the importance of following directions, and
relate that in a special way to the directions given by God.
Sunday school assembly opening:
* Sing a song that emphasizes the importance of following
directions, i.e., "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah" or "Savior, I
Follow On."
