The greatest trophy of all
Children's sermon
Object:
a trophy of some kind
Good morning! I want to show you a trophy today. (Show the
trophy.) This trophy was given to __________________ because
they/he/she won __________________________.
Do any of you play on a team of some kind -- soccer,
baseball -- any kind of team? (Let them answer.) Let me ask you
a question. If you are playing any kind of game, either on a team
or competing against another person by yourself, what is the
object of the game? What do you want to do? (Let them answer.) Of
course, the object of any game is to win. In any game, the object
is always to win. If you don't care whether you win or lose, you
will surely lose and not win.
There is a trophy that all of us can win from God, too. It's
not a trophy like this one. It's a much more important trophy
than this. God will give this trophy to everyone who believes in
His Son, Jesus Christ. That trophy or prize is eternal life with
him in Heaven. We don't have to run a race or play a game to get
it. All we have to do is believe in Jesus, and we will win. Do
all of you believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay for your
sins and was raised from the dead three days later? (Let them
answer.) Good! That means you have already won the trophy. All
you have to do is hold on to that belief and never let it go, and
you will win the prize of eternal life in Heaven. You will all be
winners! Isn't that great? (Let them answer.) Let's thank God
for giving us this trophy and making us real winners.
Dear Father in Heaven: Thank You for making us winners and giving
us the trophy of eternal life with you in Heaven. Please help us
remain faithful to what we believe. Amen.
