Heaven's pearls
Children's Activity
Object:
Materials:
A variety of different colors of beads (make sure that there are lots of colors for the children to choose from)
Artificial pearls
Letter beads, enough to spell out "I Love Jesus" for each child (the "Love" can be a bead with a heart on it)
Memory wire from a craft store
Needle-nose pliers
Wire cutters
Pieces of cloth or felt to lay out each design before putting them onto the wire
Directions:
1.
Give each child the beads that spell "I Love Jesus" to make sure that all can include that in their necklace or bracelet.
2.
Ask each child whether he/she wants a bracelet or necklace, then measure out how long the piece of memory wire should be for each child. You will need to cut the wire to the appropriate size and turn the one end around so that when you are finished it looks like a small loop.
3.
The children need to lay out the beads so that the message is in the center of the piece they are making. This should be done on a scrap piece of fabric so that the beads don't roll around and get lost.
4.
Each child should have several artificial pearls that he/she can include in the jewelry design he/she is making.
5.
Once the children have completed the placing of each bead on their necklaces or bracelets, they will need to bring them to the supervisor to have them bend the end of the wire on the other end so that the beads will not fall off.
6.
Boys may want to use the darker colors of beads so that it looks more like a boy's necklace or bracelet when they are completed.
*Next week's activity will involve asking for church members to bring in non-perishable food items. Make sure this announcement is made for this week.
