Jesus our high priest forever

election button or sign
Good morning, boys and girls. In a few weeks we are going to
have an election. (Show your object.) Can anyone tell me why we
hold elections? Sometimes we elect our president, our governor
and senators. Sometimes we elect our mayor, judges and other
people to office. Usually we have elections in early November.
Before elections are held many of the people seeking office print
posters, buttons, and many other things like these (show your
objects). They do this to persuade people to vote for them.
When people vote, people try to vote for the persons who they think will do the best job. Many of these jobs are very important. The person who gets the most votes wins. That person then begins to make decisions for the people he or she represents. These people are called elected officials. Elections make me think of today's lesson. The lesson tells about people called priests. In Bible times people had priests who were a little like elected officials today. These priests made important decisions for people. These priests of the Bible time and our elected officials today hold their offices only until they are replaced by someone else. Even though these people are very important, they are human. They are like we are. Sometimes they make mistakes. Our lesson tells us that there is one high priest who doesn't make mistakes. This high priest is higher than all others. He is perfect. He is here forever. He will never lose his office. That high priest is Jesus.
Here's what I want you to remember. When you see all those election signs and buttons remember that those people want to serve us and make important decisions for us. Remember that there is someone else who serves us. That person is Jesus. Jesus' term never runs out. Jesus lives forever. Jesus brings us closer to God.
