Jesus, the patient teacher
Children's Activity
Object:
Today we have another example of the kind of teacher Jesus was. He was patient. He was surrounded by people who just didn't get what he said. Some people even tried to trick him into saying things that would get him in trouble. We know that Jesus did get into trouble eventually. Some leaders of the day finally had enough of him. They put him on trial and sentenced him to death for what he taught.
One of the most amazing things about Jesus is that he was so patient. He stayed the course and kept on teaching whoever would listen, even though some people were out to get him. He kept teaching even when people were mad at him. No matter how frustrated he got, he kept on showing God's love to others. He was the ultimate example of what patience looks like. He was the ultimate example of what God's love looks like.
This week we are going to work on being patient. To do this, we are going to create a "patience scorecard." Make a chart and place each person's name on it. For seven days, keep track of how patient each of you can be. On day one, put a checkmark by your name every time you lose your patience. (Each person should do his or her own scoring.) The next day, try not to have as many checkmarks. Do this for a whole week. (You can do it longer if you want!) Don't compete with each other; compete with yourself. Try to outdo yourself each day.
Try to train yourselves to control your tempers better. Learn what things to do to manage your frustration. Share with each other what strategies are working, and help each other be the patient people God wants us all to be. Jesus gave us an incredible example of patient love. With practice, we can become more patient people too.
