Lost ones found!
Children's sermon
Object:
A new coin. (If you can, arrange to get a roll of new
coins and pass them out at the end of the children's sermon.)
Jesus once told a story about a woman who had a coin such as
this. She needed the coin because she was very poor. Something
happened, however, and she lost the valuable coin.
Have you ever lost something that was important and you just couldn't find it anywhere? (Let them answer.) That's how this woman felt. She felt so bad about her lost coin. That coin was so important to her.
Everywhere this woman looked she could not find the coin. She looked under her bed. She looked under the rug. She looked in the kitchen and in the bedroom. She looked in every pocket of every dress. She swept out her house hoping she could find the shiny coin -- but there was no coin! She felt very bad about that. She even started crying. But -- just then -- she saw something shiny. It was the lost coin! It was the coin! She was as happy as a person could be!
She was so happy she called her neighbors and friends and anyone who would come to rejoice with her. Her lost coin was now found. She was very happy!
Jesus told this story because he was really telling about people. God feels about people the way this woman felt about her coin. God is so very happy when any boy or girl starts believing in God.
Every person -- each one of us -- is very, very important to God.
Dearest Lord: Thank you for looking for and finding us. Amen.
