Object:
a book or paper containing the meaning of names (Seven popular names for boys and for girls are listed below. If you know the names of the children attending ahead of time, you can look them up on the internet and use them here.)
Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above
every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend in heaven and on
earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is
Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (vv. 9-11)
Good morning, boys and girls. Today we are going to talk about names. Do you know that the most popular names for boys in 2005 were Jacob, Michael, Joshua, Matthew, Ethan, Andrew, and Daniel? The most popular girl names were Emily, Emma, Madison, Abigail, Olivia, Isabella, and Hannah. The name Madison used to be a boy's name until around 1984 when it became a name for girls, also.
Each of our names has a special meaning. For instance, the name Emily means "hard worker." The name Ethan means "strong." The name Jacob means "may God protect." The name Samantha means "listener." All of our names have a special meaning. Saint Paul wrote that God was so pleased with Jesus that his name is above every other name. The name Jesus means "God will help." Saint Paul said that we should have so much love and respect for Jesus that even hearing his name makes us want to praise him. Every person who has ever lived or died should also say, "Jesus Christ is Lord."
Do you think we should kneel when we hear the name of Jesus? (let them answer) Do you know how to kneel? (let them answer) Let's try it. I will say, "Let us love the Lord Jesus" and when I say it, you should kneel and fold your hands. (if possible, please demonstrate) Are you ready? Here it comes -- "Let us love the Lord Jesus." (wait for the children to kneel) That's it! Kneel and say, "Jesus Christ is Lord." (practice it a few times) You are very good. Remember, when you hear the name Jesus, kneel on the ground and say, "Jesus Christ is Lord." Amen.
