More precious than gold
Children's sermon
Object:
very meaningful personal possession (a
toy from your youth, antique jewelry, a personal letter)
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought something to share
with you this morning that is very precious to me. (Show the
article and explain its meaning to the students.) Do any of you
have something that is very important to you like this? (Let them
answer.) It is nice to have things that are important. One thing
to remember about important items like this is that they will not
last forever. My item is perishable. That means that someday it
may wear out, or fade or fall apart. When that happens it will be
gone. Did you know that God has something for all of us that is
very important? In fact, it is more valuable than (mention your
article and some of the items the children mentioned). Unlike my
(name the object) what God has for us will last with us forever.
Do any of you know what God has for each of us that is so
important? (Let them answer.) It is our faith. Our lesson this
morning says that when you have faith in God, it is more precious
than gold. It is more precious than anything you own. Can you
imagine anything so precious? That's what God tells us.
To have faith in God means that you know God will take care of you and will watch over you. Faith in God is something that will last for as long as you live. To have faith in God means that God will be with you in all times -- good and bad times. God's love will never wear out. It will never fall apart. It will be with you forever.
Remember that this week when you are playing with something that is very important to you, or if you are with someone that is very important to you. Remember that your faith in God is important also. The Bible says that it is more precious than gold.
