Never a king like Jesus
Children's Activity
Teachers: This week's lesson tells the story of Jesus' Passion. This activity focuses on the Mark 15:17 passion concerning his crown. If you are able to obtain branches to create a crown that resembles a crown of thorns, make one to share with your students. Tell them that the soldiers made it and placed it on Jesus' head.
Next, give students construction paper to cut out to make their own crowns. Allow them to decorate their crowns with whatever optional stickers, glitter or other items your classroom craft closet contains. As the crowns are completed, help students by taping the crowns to fit their heads. Suggest students write "Mark 15:17" on their crowns.
Explain that Jesus was a different kind of king -- not the kind that the Roman soldiers or most other people of his day realized.
Parents: Your child constructed a crown, centered on the theme of Jesus as king. Suggest that your child continue to make crowns for other members of the family, or for his parents this week. The crown could be a table centerpiece during Holy Week in your household.
