First Thoughts: Our passage from Mark shows Jesus doing something he did frequently, but also something we don't normally hear about: He retreated to a deserted place. In our individual spiritual lives we are likely to focus much attention on accomplishing a variety of righteous works, such as daily devotion and Bible reading, acts of charity, and attendance at worship services. But something that is often forgotten is the need for us also to be still.
