The right time
Children's sermon
Object:
a clock
Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. (v. 11a)
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you wake up about the same time every morning? (let them answer) Some of us wake up at 6:30 in the morning; some of us wake up at 7 or 7:30 or even 8 in the morning. We go to bed in the dark and in the morning there is a new light that tells us it is time to get up and do what we do every day. Every day can be an exciting day if we plan to try something new, something different. Did anyone here do something different yesterday? (let them answer)
When I wake up in the morning, I usually look at the clock. (show them the clock) It is almost the same time as I awakened yesterday morning. I will wake up tomorrow about the same time. It sounds boring except that I have a whole day planned and some of the things I am going to do today I have never done before. Today I am going to share Jesus with a friend who has never been to church or Sunday school. I have made up a bag of things I want to take with me when I tell him about Jesus. I will take along a Bible for us to read together. I will take a picture of our church and a Sunday school paper that my teacher shared with me. I have a book of hymns and I am going to sing one of my favorite hymns with him. I will pray with him and tell him about the Lord's Prayer. Also, I am going to take something for the soup kitchen so that the poor will have something to eat.
Every day I try to do something different because I have a love that Jesus gave to me. I used to do other things that did not make me happy but instead got me into a lot of trouble. I don't do those kinds of things anymore. Instead, I find someone to share Jesus with and it makes me very happy. No one has been unhappy with me since I learned that Jesus really loves me and wants me to share him with everyone else.
I still get up at the same time. The clock tells me that it is 7 in the morning. I still wash my face, brush my teeth, get dressed, eat breakfast, go to work, eat lunch, go back to work, go home, eat dinner, and read the newspaper. But then the fun begins. I write a note to a friend who is lonely, I take some supper to a neighbor woman, I go to choir practice, and then sit down with my family and read the Bible together before going to bed. This is the part of the day that I like the most.
Tomorrow morning, when you wake up and look at the clock, I hope you have a plan to make your life really happy by spending some of your time with Jesus. Amen.
