Seeing Jesus
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: It is natural for people to want to see
those who are famous. Jesus was a popular figure and people
wanted to meet him and, perhaps, see him do some kind of miracle.
Today, we still want to see Jesus, and we can meet him face to
face in the Bible. Today's gospel message gives us a chance to
show the children where we can find Jesus and see him -- in the
Bible.
*Show the children a picture of Jesus and tell them we are
going to play a game of hide and seek with his picture. Have them
leave the room or hide their eyes while you hide the picture. Put
the picture in a Bible. Let them look for the picture until they
find it. You may have to give hints, especially if the children
are very young. When the picture is found in the Bible, talk to
them about the fact that the Bible is always where we look for
Jesus.
*Paste pictures of several items including a Bible on a page
and make copies. Give each of the children a copy and ask them if
they can find Jesus on the page. If they do not identify the
Bible as the place to find him, you can do it for them and
discuss how Jesus can be found in the Bible.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Read the gospel account and ask them why they think the men
wanted to see Jesus. Lead a discussion of why we too want to see
him today.
