Children's sermon

“Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee and revealed his glory...” (v. 11a)
Good morning dear children,
I am so happy to see you this lovely day. Did you know you are God's beautiful children? Yes you are! And besides that, God knows everything about each of you!
But since I don't know everything about you, I am going to learn something new about you I didn't know before. Who knows how to sing? (children respond) Who knows how to dance?(children respond) Listen? Love? (ask other similar questions) (children respond) Here's something about me you didn't know before: ______________.
The people in Jesus' day did not know who Jesus was or why Jesus was around.
So, one day in a little town called Cana, Jesus was attending a wedding when the hosts ran out of wine. Running out of wine for the guests would be a social disaster. So after being urged by his mother, Jesus miraculously turned 120 to 180 gallons of water into wine. Everybody was shocked and pleased.
What happened was sort of like this: What is this? (a lemon) Yes, this is a fruit that in its present state is very sour. Ugh. When you peel it, it's kind of tough. It could make your eyes water. (cut open the lemon) But look what it can make. (show jar or glass of lemonade) Who likes lemonade? (children and audience respond)
It is said that when life hands you a lemon make lemonade out of it. That means when a difficulty appears in one's life by God's grace, make something good out of it.
At the wedding Jesus took a bad situation and made it good. This amazing miracle was the first sign of who Jesus really was. Since the people did not know who Jesus really was other than the neighbor lad, they began to realize that Jesus appears as a very, very special person. Eventually, they would see him as the Messiah or the Son of God.
Prayer: Jesus, out of kindness and love you rescued a bad situation and made it good. Thank you for this first miracle sign of making water into wine. Help us to see your glory. Help us believe like your trusting disciples believed. Amen.
