Tight Fisted
Children's sermon
Null
Object:
A tight fist (kids can imitate you and also make a tight fist)
Who thinks they can open up my tight fist? Anyone want to try? (Allow them to give a try) God also wants to open up our tight fist. Many times we hold on very tightly to all of the "things" we own. God wants us to be available to give things up and to be willing to share all he has "loaned" us.
Someone may want to ride our bike or play with our soccer ball, or other toys. Are we slow to share? All that we have is a gift from God -- we don't really own it! It says in Matthew 5:42:
Give to the one who asks you and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
It also tells us to love not only those who love us back, that there is no reward in that, but to be "perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." That means that you should love everyone just as God loves everyone.
How do we apply this to our lives?
So what are you tight fisted about? If God asked you to be kind to a new kid in the neighborhood or school would you say no? Are you willing to share your time? Or if someone wants to play with your new ________ (popular item), do you share it with them as though it is a gift from God?
May we be open handed and know it is all God's.
