an obituary notice
Good morning! I cut this notice out of the paper to show
you. This is an obituary notice. (Show the notice.) When someone
dies, a notice like this is put in the paper to let people know
that the person has died and to tell us something about him or
her. Now this one tells us the person's name and a lot of other
stuff about him or her. (Share some of the information from the
notice.)
While this tells us some things, it doesn't tell us the most
important thing of all. It doesn't tell us where the dead person
is now. Life doesn't end when we die. We just move on to a
different place. Can anyone tell me where we go after we die?
(Let them answer.) That's right. We either go to Heaven or we go
to Hell. Which place do you want to go to? (Let them answer.) Of
course, we all want to go to Heaven. Hell is a very bad place and
nobody wants to go there.
A lot of people live in fear that they might go to Hell. The
Bible tells us that when we live in fear of Hell, we are held in
slavery by that fear. Do any of you want to live your whole life
worried about Hell? Do you want to be a slave to that fear? (Let
them answer.) No, of course not, and the good news is that you
don't have to!
The Bible promises us that everyone who believes in Jesus
doesn't have to be afraid of Hell. If you believe that Jesus died
on the cross to pay for your sins, you are free! You will go to
Heaven! Isn't that wonderful news? (Let them answer.)
Dear Jesus: Two days ago, we celebrated your birthday. We thank
you so much for coming into the world to save us from our sins
and make us free from all worry about Hell. Amen.
