In 1936 A.D., after reigning only eleven months as the British monarch, Edward VIII abdicated the throne so that he could marry his beloved, Wallis Simpson, a twice-divorced American woman with no title. Edward gave up his regal crown for the sake of love. He had everything to gain to remain as England's monarch, especially since he was so popular with the people. But, he was not after power or fame. He was following the path of love, where he discovered the need to set aside his position, so that he could take his position by his beloved.
