In 1977 Ronald J. Sider wrote, in Rich Christians In An Age of Hunger, "At the height of the Marshall Plan (begun in 1947 ...) we actually gave annually 2.79 of our Gross National Product for developmental assistance. By 1975 that figure had plummeted to a mere 0.24 percent of our GNP ... Our affluence fails to satisfy our restless hearts. And it also helps to deprive one billion hungry neighbors of badly needed food resources."
Plato said it: "Poverty consists not in the decrease of one's possessions, but in the increase of one's greed."
