In 1997, a man who said that he was an exiled prince from Borneo announced at a United Nations conference that he was going to give one billion dollars to help the poorer countries of the world. When that gift was announced, everyone at the U.N. conference began to applaud, and the fellow became a real celebrity. But it was only later that they discovered that the man was not a prince, that he was not from Borneo, and that he did not have a billion dollars to give.
