At the 1999 National Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Denver, ecumenical proposals were the hot topic. The proposal with the Moravians seemed good to almost everyone. When the proposal was discussed, there were only comments in favor of entering into a full communion relationship. When Moravian speakers spoke, they were welcomed with open arms as partners in Christ. When the time came to decide, the vote was nearly unanimous. The voting members of the assembly rose to their feet and applauded thunderously. It was an exciting time and the feeling was powerful.
