"Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in deed and in truth." This must be a very important teaching when you think of the number of ways that people over the centuries have tried to express it. Jesus taught it in the Sermon on the Mount when he said, "Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."
Some modern ways of stating it are, "Put your money where your mouth is!" "You've got to have more than aim in life; you've got to pull the trigger!"
Broadway taught it through the plays, Promises! Promises! and My Fair Lady, with the song "Show me!"
All these statements remind us that authentic faith is what we do after we say we believe.
