Almost all cultures have ritual...

Almost all cultures have ritual passages in which members move from childhood to adulthood. In the Native American culture, a boy becomes a man after spending time apart from the tribe. It is during this separation that the young man receives a vision which is the sign that he is ready to be received as an adult member of the tribe. In the Jewish world a 12-year-old boy passes into manhood by becoming a Son of the Law. On that day he assumes all the duties and responsibilities of keeping the commandments; he becomes a man.
