Amos makes no pretense to be a prophet, only one sent with a message from God. It wasn't a message people received with much gladness.
I remember reading about an elderly bishop who went to speak at the chapel service at Yale School of Divinity. He took as his outline the four letters Y, A, L, E.
For 10 minutes he talked about "Y" which stood for youth; then he spoke for about 12 minutes about "A" for attitude; then he preached for 21 minutes about "L" for labor. Finally, he finished the discourse with 19 minutes on "E" for enthusiasm.
